New Orleans College Tours
Notes from the Road
College Tours + More: NOLA
The Big Easy is a vibrant, music-loving city, crackling with electric energy. I recently visited two college campuses located in the beautiful Uptown neighborhood: Tulane University and Loyola News Orleans. Students here truly have the best of all worlds: the opportunity to learn on a dynamic college campus while taking advantage of the exciting culture, food, and history of New Orleans.
Tulane is known for standout programs in public health, business, and environmental studies, along with a strong emphasis on community service. Located in the heart of New Orleans, students enjoy incredible access to the city’s traditions, art scene, and cuisine. The atmosphere is fun and friendly with a “work hard, play hard” vibe. With an overall acceptance rate of around 11%, Tulane has become quite competitive. Applying Early Decision and demonstrating interest can improve your chances of admission.
Loyola New Orleans is a small, Jesuit university known for its creative energy, inclusive community, and strong programs in music (especially jazz), business, nursing, and the arts. Located next to Tulane and across from Audubon Park, Loyola puts students right in the heart of this vibrant city. The student body is diverse, socially aware, and drawn to meaningful, purpose-driven education. With a holistic and accessible admissions process, Loyola offers a supportive environment for students who want to grow both personally and intellectually.
While in New Orleans (some recommendations):
Chimes Bed and Breakfast, 1146 Constantinople St., New Orleans
Midway between the Uptown colleges and the French Quarter and a short walk from the trolley, you’ll find “The Chimes,” a charming inn located in the historic Garden District. We enjoyed a spacious cottage (with a/c!) in a tranquil courtyard, along with light, delicious, homemade breakfasts prepared by our friendly hosts, Jill and Charles.
Cafe du Monde, 800 Decatur St., New Orleans
Café du Monde is a New Orleans institution famous for its fluffy beignets smothered in powdered sugar and and rich, dark café au lait made with chicory coffee.
St. Charles Streetcar
The trolley is a New Orleans classic that’s been running since the early 1900s, making it the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world. It offers a charming way to explore the city, gliding through historic neighborhoods with views of beautiful mansions, oak-lined streets, and the Tulane and Loyola campuses. Riding the trolley is a relaxing, scenic, and a perfect way to soak up local history and culture.
A beignet from Café du Monde is sweet, messy, and completely irresistible!
